The restaurant Baydal, at the port of Calpe, is like a glass palace, full of natural light and overlooking Toix, the Peñon and the life of the port.

The small railing in yellow and blue, colours of the sun and the beach, surprises us. Together with the Peñon de Ifach, the Sun and the Beach are the emblems of the Costa Blanca and especially of Calpe. The restaurant Baydal is considered one of the oldest in Calpe and dates from 1941. They are specializing in fresh fish, shellfish from the bay of Calpe and rice dishes among which we have to mention the "Arros del Senyoret" that was created by the restaurant Baydal in the eighties and is, nowadays, known out of Calpe.

"Salvador Baydal" transferred this pearl of the port of Calpe to his children "Paco and Jaime Baydal", and today, the restaurant is managed by "José Baydal" as the third generation. The Chef, "Avelino Simarro" is for already 20 years responsible for the extraordinary and varied cuisine whose freshness is guaranteed.

By the warm welcome we receive, we can see immediately that the professional team of 15 persons in the restaurant attach great importance to customer service, cleanliness and sense of well being. We enjoy the decoration of the table, the comfortable wooden chairs and especially the views to all the things that are happening in the port.

As starters, they recommend us the" carabineros"; large red prawns of the bay of Calpe, and some "tellines"; a sort of small clams, from Oliva and Gandia. We also taste the Galician octopus, the fry-up Baydal with small fried fishes, fresh anchovies, cuttlefish, roes and prawns, together with a white wine Verdeval coming from the region of Alicante. Everything was a real delight for our taste.

After that, we taste an "Arros del Senyoret", speciality of the house, which was presented in an exquisite way. This rice is made with clean and shelled shellfish, just ready to be eaten. We also taste another dish, the "Llauna de Calpe", monkfish prepared in the traditional style of the fishermen. A large variety of fresh fish dishes such as red mullets, small hakes, monkfish and many others is available at the restaurant Baydal.

As home made desserts, they recommend us a "Crema Catalana" (like crème brûlée), a Baydal tiramisu, a crème caramel or a lemon sorbet.

On the wine list, you can find wines coming from all the regions of Spain and especially some quality wines coming from the region of Alicante.

At Restaurant Baydal at the port of Calpe, our palate could appreciate the quality and the freshness of the dishes that emphasize the distinction "Peix de Calp" and the "Silver medal to the tourist merit of the town of Calpe, which has been awarded posthumously to Mr. Salvador Baydal Ivars on the 4th of October 2002.

In summer you will be able to enjoy all these delicacies outside, under the starry sky feeling the gentle breeze of the sea, or inside where all the windows are open. The restaurant Baydal is one of the first to offer a lounge for smokers. At the bar, you can have a beer with a small "tapa" (they offer a large variety of them).
